Chevy Bolt’s New 259 Miles of Range

2020 Chevrolet Bolt EV in Grand Prairie, TX

On August 22, 2019, Chevrolet announced that the 2020 Chevy Bolt will now achieve a 259-mile range on a single charge. This newly-expanded range represents an 8.8 percent increase from the prior model year Bolt’s already-impressive 238-mile range, and allows Bolt drivers to go even longer without “filling up” via a charging session.

Chevrolet Global Battery Cell Engineering and Strategy Director, Tim Grewe, explained that the automaker’s battery experts “worked diligently to find ways to improve battery energy, giving customers the confidence to go more than the extra mile.” Energy efficiencies in the cell electrodes were accomplished by changing cell chemistry, allowing for the 2020 Bolt’s range to increase without a significant change to the battery pack’s structure.

In addition to increasing the Bolt’s range, Chevrolet has made a number of other significant updates to the vehicle since its release in 2016. Regen on Demand, one-pedal driving, and instant torque are just some of the fuel-efficient updates made to the EV in order to give customers a more enjoyable driving experience. Another recent update available to legacy Bolt owners is the myChevrolet app’s Energy Assist technology. This feature lets you plan out a multi-destination route that includes charging stations along the way, and it can be projected on the infotainment system using Apple CarPlay® or Android Auto™.

The 2020 Bolt will be available at Graff Chevrolet later this year.
