2020 is sure to bring a lot of great things for Chevy. At or near the top of that list — the Chevy Tahoe’s 25th birthday. That’s right, the Chevy Tahoe has been around since it was first introduced as a 1995 model. Since then, the Tahoe has climbed its way to the top of the multi-purpose family vehicle segment, becoming the best-selling full-size SUV in the United States for the last 19 years.
It’s no surprise that the Chevy Tahoe has sold so well for the past two decades and beyond. The Tahoe SUV consistently earns recognition from industry critics like J.D. Power and Kelley Blue Book®. Most recently, the former honored the Tahoe in its 2019 Initial Quality Study while the latter included the Tahoe in the KBB 5-Year Cost to Own Awards.
“The Tahoe delivered the perfect blend of capability, cargo space and comfort just as the four-door, full-size SUV market ignited in the United States,” remarked Paul Edwards, U.S. vice president of Chevrolet marketing. “The Tahoe is a wildly successful and enduring favorite with customers and has helped Chevrolet lead the full-size SUV segment since its introduction.”
According to Chevy, nearly one in every four full-size SUVs sold in the United States is a Chevy Tahoe. When you combine the Tahoe with the Suburban (another long-running Chevy nameplate), the vehicles from Chevy account for 45 percent of the full-size SUV segment in the U.S. That’s twice the amount of the automaker’s closest competitor (Ford at 23 percent). GMC follows close behind at 20 percent; for those keeping score, GMC is another GM brand.
