The all-new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray received the 2020 North American Car of the Year at the TCF Center in Detroit.
The North American Awards are for the best Car, Utility, and Truck of the Year. A jury of 50 members of independent journalists decides the accolades. They look at the innovation, design, performance, technology, safety and value of each vehicle.
The 2020 Chevy Corvette Stingray obtained the award for its bold refinement, extraordinary performance and its all-new mid-engine design.
The Corvette Stingray has received this award twice already. The fifth generation in 1998 won it and the seventh generation in 2014. Tadge Juechter, Corvette executive and chief engineer, had this to say.
“Our team poured our hearts and souls into this vehicle, and to see such an overwhelmingly positive reception makes it all worthwhile.” He said it was a humbling experience and that since the jurors loved the new Corvette, customers would, too.
Professional automotive journalists from the across the United States and Canada voted individually. Lauren Fix, president of the North American Truck of the Year awards, said, “This is one of the best-built GM products that exemplifies what it means to be the North American Car of the Year.”
Production of the 2020 Chevy Corvette Stingray has started.
